Certified Pharmacy Technician

August 2018 • Mechanicsville, VA

What I liked

I liked working hands on with drugs and patients. It’s definitely great experience for an aspiring pharmacist like myself to learn what I like and dislike about the job.

What I wish was different

I wish I could gain more experience in a clinical setting vs the retail setting of CVS.

Advice

People can be mean sometimes, especially when things go wrong with their drugs. Try to ignore this and it can be a really rewarding experience.

Supervisor

February - July 2019 • Celina, TX

What I liked

I ended up saving about 6,000.00 for college. That enabled me to take out less debt.

What I wish was different

CVS does not have a systematic way of commuting between manager and employees. One week we would be writing notes to each other, another week we would be sending text messages or making phone calls, and finally we tried a communication binder which not all of the supervisors used. It really was one of my worst experiences. I wish I would have accepted a job elsewhere.

Advice

Working during the summer is going to feel boring, monotonous, and like you are getting nowhere. My mind did not feel challenged, my manager was horrible...But I kept reminding myself of my goal. I kept telling myself "Get your degree so that you never have to be stuck in a job like this." My piece of advice would be to push through the emotions, because at the end of the summer, you are going to be in a totally new place with money in your bank account, making it all worth it.

Courtesy Clerk

August 2017 - September 2018 • Honolulu, HI

What I liked

I liked the people I was working with. My colleagues were some of the nicest people I have ever met, and took me in like their own child. I learned so many things from them that I would never have learned otherwise, especially given that I went to a private school.

What I wish was different

I wish the salary had been higher, because all of the employees are paid a basically unlivable wage. CVS has the highest worker-CEO pay gap, with CEO Larry Merlo making 434 times the wage of the average CVS worker. This was not so much an issue for myself, because I still am covered by my parents, but for the adult full time workers, I cannot help but feel bad for them.

Advice

It's a good temporary job, in which to get worldly experience, but it is not a career which will earn a good living.

Store Associate

November 2018 • Brandon, FL

What I liked

It can be a fast-paced atmosphere and the management are very friendly.

What I wish was different

CVS as a company (as most retail companies) work their employees to the bone. A 4-hour shift can be one of the most draining shifts ever just based on how much needs to get done.

Advice

Learn how to the coupon so that you know it better than the customers. It will save you a lot of headaches.
