Customer Service Correspondence Clerk

June 2019 • Granby, CT

What I liked

Employees in the store were great.

What I wish was different

Corporate policies lacked common sense and were not very good business decisions.

Advice

CVS pays a decent amount above minimum wage so it's nice to work there, but given Connecticut is raising their minimum wage anyways, you might as well work at a business that actually understands how stores should be run.

Cashier

May 2019 • Waltham, MA

What I liked

I liked having a variety of tasks to do on the job. Some places have cashiers only do cashier work or front end work but at CVS I am able to do a little bit of everything. I get to work on the floor doing price changes, stock shelves, putting up sale signs, and putting security stickers on high value or medicinal merchandise. I also get to work at the register and the front end which includes ringing customers up, cleaning, and tending to the self check out machines. Even though retail in general can be stressful, CVS is pretty nice to work for as a cashier because you get to do different tasks and not just one.

What I wish was different

The one thing I wish that would have been different was if I had the ability to do a variety of tasks every shift, sometimes not all tasks will be available depending on what needs to be done in the store on certain days.

Advice

My piece of advice for the experience of working at CVS would be that if you don't mind retail, you don't mind hard work, and you like having a variety of things to do then CVS or any other store would be a place to work for.

Pharmacy Technician

What I liked

I had the ability to transfer to pharmacy tech when I started off as a cashier

What I wish was different

Advice

The setting fluctuates from being super slow to being super busy. As a pharmacy tech, there's a lot of training you have to undergo to just understand one section of the job.

Pharmacy Technician

July - September 2019 • Lansing, MI

What I liked

Processing and counting prescriptions, learning about medications, managing patient profiles and helping customers.

What I wish was different

That CVS allocated more hours to their pharmacy staff, instead of limiting their hours to the point of ineffeciency.

Advice

Pharmacy work requires patience; avoid these jobs if you have a low tolerance for stress or human interaction.

Cashier

April 2017 • Southwick, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed the people that I worked with as they were very professional and respectful. The customers were all polite and I learned good customer service. Cvs taught me how to communicate with others and my managers.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to work more hours for the company. There were also not many cashiers that worked at busy times of the day so lines would form and we would have problems.

Advice

It is important to stay calm and focused when things go wrong as a cashier. Customers can become frustrated but it is the job of the cashier to put them at ease.

Store Clerk

April 2019 • Ridgefield, CT

What I liked

Being paid more than minimum wage, learning retail operations, learning customer service, being groomed for advancement

What I wish was different

Too many hours while attending classes

Advice

The job is much more than greeting and checking out customers. There is stocking merchandise, switching over sales signs from one week to the next, ensuring current stock on the shelves at all times, maintaining the appearance of the store, pressure to promote sales initiatives. It is actually not an easy or mindless job, which is why they pay more than minimum wage.

Certified Pharmacy Technician

March 2018 • McLean, VA

What I liked

I love the real-life impacts I make through this position. From helping people understand how to take their medications to searching for coupons to allow them to afford their medications, I know that I am truly making a difference in people’s lives. I have learned so much, and this has been a great position. Also, CVS is extremely flexible in location. I am able to pick up shifts all across the country, making it ideal for college, as I spend my year is multiple different locations.

What I wish was different

The pay should be improved. For the amount of work technicians do, especially at hectic stores, $13/hour is almost unacceptable. Many do this as a full time job, and $13/hour is hardly a livable wage.

Lead Pharmacy Technician

February 2018 - July 2019 • Hyattsville, MD

What I liked

The thing that I liked most about working at CVS was that it gave me the opportunity to explore my choice of career whilst making money. While also helping prepare me for pharmacy school.

What I wish was different

I had issues surrounding the amount of work they tried to place upon me and not enough competent staff to help accomplish the daily task that make the pharmacy run. I was the only tech there that actually cared and in the end my value wasn't seen so I had to excuse myself from the company.

Advice

When working for a major corporation such as CVS, make sure that you document everything. And don't let anyone pressure you into doing more than you are being paid for especially if it interferes with your studies.

Certified Pharmacy Technician

April 2016 • Metairie, LA

What I liked

I’m chem pre-pharm so working in a pharmacy is a great way to gain some experience about my future career. They also work around my school schedule and are respectful of my status as a student first.

What I wish was different

Advice

Working in a pharmacy can be very stressful and demanding at times. Many pharmacies are very understaffed so you most likely will end up feeling spread very thin. I wouldn’t recommend working this sort of job full time because it will get in the way of valuable studying time.
